Active Membranes Closes Seed Funding Round for Revolutionary Desalination Technology

Active Membranes, a developer of electricallyconducting membranes for desalination, has successfully closed its initial round of Seed Funding. The funding will be used to further develop their gamechanging desalination technology, facilitate corporate growth, scaleup technology, and advance commercialization. Additionally, the investment will support extended field pilot tests cofunded by various US federal and state government agencies.

Leading the funding round were Natural Ventures, Echo River Capital, and Pacifica Water Solutions, one of Active Membranes cofounders. Natural Ventures expressed excitement in supporting Active Membranes innovative approach to desalination technology, emphasizing the importance of reducing economic and environmental costs in water resource management. Echo River Capital highlighted Active Membranes potential impact in innovating decentralized water treatment and contributing to the goal of providing fresh drinking water for all.

Active Membranes patented technology incorporates tunable electrical potential into desalination membranes, making them resistant to scaling and fouling during the desalination process. These unique membranes require minimal pretreatment and chemical usage, operate at a higher recovery rate, and offer cost efficiencies, potentially transforming desalination into a preferred water treatment technology. The company has received accolades such as the Technology Idol Award and the More Water Less Concentrate Prize and is a finalist for the 2024 Earthshot Prize.
